California’s blind and visually impaired community will once again have the opportunity to surf with the Encinitas Lions Club and Urban Surf 4 Kids. This year’s surf camp will take place at Cardiff Seaside State Beach on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 8 AM to 4 PM. There are 65 available surf spots. Registration deadline is Friday, September 1. Due to permit restrictions, only registered participants can attend; others will be turned away. Waitlisted individuals will be notified of any openings.
The surf sessions are 30 minutes per person, reserved exclusively for those who are blind or visually impaired, aged 7 and above. No family members or friends can surf in place of a participant. All necessary equipment and instruction will be provided. Lunch is included for all attendees. Participants will also receive a commemorative t-shirt. Parking is available at Cardiff State Beach for $15 per car, and there’s limited street parking.
To participate, registration is required for both Wayfinder (below) and UrbanSurf4Kids. Additionally, after completing the Wayfinder waiver, participants will need to fill out the health history and special needs form, as well as a transportation request if necessary.
