Inside Frank and Elena’s home, a large chalkboard is filled with activities for the two foster children they’re caring for now. From special dinners out and church choir practice to weekly library visits and trips to the movie theater, the retired couple ensures the kids have a full life and are part of the community.
When a child is removed from their home because of abuse or neglect, they can feel anxious, confused, angry or scared. With your help, Wayfinder finds stable and loving foster homes so these children can receive the care, attention, and safety they so desperately need.
Foster parents like Frank and Elena help create a bridge from a troubled home to a healthier family. These dedicated caregivers already raised their own children and grandchildren, but decided they had more love to give. “I wish I could clone them,” says Wayfinder social worker Ana Zimmer. “They are so resourceful, smart and caring – and they don’t easily give up on the children.”
After being screened, Frank and Elena took part in helpful pre-placement training sessions and Wayfinder offers ongoing support in the form of supervised visits and access to parent networks and support groups. The special couple has welcomed several different foster children into their home since 2024.
Foster parents like Frank and Elena are helping give young people a chance at a happy, healthy and productive life. “We work together as a team and we are so thankful and appreciative of foster parents like them,” adds Ana. “Their hearts are in the right place.”
