And few people know Wayfinder’s Camp Bloomfield like Patricia. She’s been coming to camp from the beginning … back in the 1950s!
She remembers those early days fondly. The fun, the adventure, and a few pranks figure in her stories. During her first couple of years, she was homesick. But by the third year, she was all in!
Like most of our campers, Patricia can’t see. But she can hear the birds. She can feel the sun. And she can feel the grass under her feet. She’s always ready for a nature walk to enjoy it all.
Wayfinder’s Camp Bloomfield is free of charge for people who have a visual impairment. And camp sessions aren’t funded by the state or federal government. That’s why we’re so grateful to you—your support for Wayfinder helps fund these programs.
Each year, there are sessions for younger kids, teens, families and adults. Sessions are carefully planned to be full of activities and fun. They create memories that last a lifetime.
Patricia will happily share her camp memories with you. Playing baseball, learning archery, swimming and riding horses have been a part of her camp experience, summer after summer.
Our camp counselors make it all work: using sounds to identify the bases for a game of baseball, for example.
And now that Patricia is older (though always young at heart!), she loves the chance to walk in nature. She uses a walker, but with a little help, she can still enjoy the camp experience.
Right now, we’re preparing to welcome a new group of campers. And your continuing support would make their camp experience possible. Your generosity opens new horizons for people with visual impairments or blindness.
One of Patricia’s favorite activities is sitting around the campfire and singing. She always brings her tambourine to camp!
Your kindness makes such a difference in people’s lives. We’re grateful to you for all you do to support Wayfinder—and to make camp possible for people like Patricia!
