A Mother’s Love
Kids have always been an important part of Jennifer Lewis’ life. She was a babysitter from a young age and worked as a nanny for multiple children while studying at the University of California, Santa Barbara. “I always knew you could forge really strong bonds with kids who are not biologically yours,” she says.
After having her biological son, Alexander, Jennifer had a difficult time getting pregnant again. She started researching foster care and adoption in the Sacramento area and came across Wayfinder Family Services.
“It was a long process to get approved and we were so lucky to be placed with Tigerlily when she was a month old,” says Jennifer. “Her name is very unique and very fitting for her personality. She is fierce and independent and fearless, but also so kind and loving.”
Tigerlily is the name her birth parents gave the now 8-year-old. “We talk about her birth parents all the time and she’s very aware she’s adopted,” she says. “We just felt like she was meant to be with us.”
Jennifer was eager to give back and volunteer and that’s when she discovered Wayfinder’s Community Council. “I want to spread the message of the wonderful things Wayfinder does and how different people can contribute,” says Jennifer, “and maybe there is someone who is looking to foster or adopt.”
In her role as Vice President Leasing & Property Management at McClellan Business Park in Sacramento County, Jennifer is regularly able to share Wayfinder’s mission at work, golf tournaments and charity events. “When you’re an adoptive or foster parent, it’s amazing how often it comes up in different conversations with people,” she says.
“You never know who you’re going to encounter and how your story might touch other people’s lives.”
